( I offer you a brief summary so things are all a little clearer, seeing as I haven't written all of this tw for mentions of death & blood. )
It was the early morning after his 25th birthday and the day of his coronation, the 17th of june 1717, when he agreed to meet his lover lady DEATH. upon his arrival she then proceeded to plunge a blade to the hilt in the middle of his chest, draining him of all the life he had yet to live amidst a venomous kiss. he was no longer her beloved —— no, he never was. she had lied to him.
he was disgusting. unworthy. they could never let the king's crown touch upon his head. they would never let him rule. his body lay there for hours, cold ﹠ pale, and bleeding out.
at mid-day, she, ridden with guilt after the murder she'd committed and looking to hide any clues That could lead to her, threw his body into ‘ lover's lake ’, their meeting place, far from the royal palace. he was later given a grandiose funeral & a large headstone, but no proper grave, as his body remained beneath the lake's waters, rotten & alone, and never to be found.
years passed & he ended up waking up in the mansion next to the lake, for unknown reasons. but he wasn't alive, not anymore. his silver ring, a dainty little thing, was now his tie to the mortal world as it passed from hand to hand. and wherever it went, he did too.
he now resides in the castle that once belonged to him, only it has now become a museum.

• stéphane has no working organs besides a heart, and his ‘human’ body technically isn’t functional. It’s palpable, though.
• about his appearances :
he's able to shift between two, but this is often decided by his mood.
ghost form : this is a result of longing and sadness. his body gradually decays and degenerates, and it fades at the edges. his eyes gain a pearly white sheen, as well as his hair, & he appears much more ghostly & intimidating. this form is painful for him to see; transforming him into a sorrowful apparition that clouds his brain with overwhelmingly harrowing memories. he is not his usual self in this form, & can lash out depending on who makes contact.
human form : his human form is his main form, one that mostly appears as he once was. while it is not technically fully functional as a human body should be as he technically has no working organs besides a beating heart, it gives him the ability to remain firm & not see through. however, he can float, glide, hover & move through walls in this form, as long as he doesn't go too far from his anchor. he can also turn invisible to remain undetected, if needs be, which is what he usually does.
